skate// Oakley In Residence: Los Angeles Opening Night

The Fairfax District, in Los Angeles, is a hotbed of skate and street culture. It’s home to The Hundreds, Supreme, Crooks & Castles, Diamond Supply Co., and now to Oakley In Residence. The Studio L.A. is the first of a three series – creative spaces that incorporate art, a pop-up skate park, and just a place to celebrate our obsession with the culture as a community.

Focusing on Los Angeles as the birthplace of the skateboard scene; artists and skaters alike have gathered to give back and to inspire. On April 24th, the opening exhibition, Oakley joined up with Girl Skateboards and featured individual tributes to legendary skate spots around Los Angeles in the form of skate decks. Nick Zegel recognized The Pink Motel Pool, Andy Mueller paid accolades to the Wilshire handrail, and Jeremy Carnahan immortalized L.A. High. Each piece is accompanied by a flag, which flies atop the gallery space, representing each location.

The space is free and open to the public through May 10th, with different workshops, exhibitions, meet-ups, skate sessions and film screenings happening daily from 11am – 8pm.
