car// Iron Invasion

We love going out to the Midwest, not just to see family and not just because it's beautiful, but because they have some great car and bike shows.

October 3rd was Iron Invasion in Woodstock, Illinois and the weather was perfect (compared to last years sleet and snow). It was a bit cold for us Californians, but compared to the nasty heat we left behind, we were loving it!

It was our first time attending Iron Invasion and we really enjoyed ourselves! Midwestern shows are a bit different than the shows in California -- it just feels like everyone is there to have a really good time and nothing else matters. I love that the vibe is a bit more relaxed also -- I've never been able to ride a mini bike through any other shows! We had a blast watching the crazy burnouts, the flame thrower compition, the vintage motocross racing and, of course, the mini bike races. Iron Invasion has an awesome swap meet too!

Despite being thousands of miles away from California, as long as you are at a car show, you are never too far from home. The scene is like a tight nit family, so you can always count on seeing someone you know. While riding around we ran into Bob Bleed (Midwest Fabricators), Piero De Luca (Motornation), our friends at Retro-a-go-go, and met the Midwest chapter of the Los Boulevardos.

All in all, the day was fantastic and we hope to make it next year, and the years to come. I would highly recommend making it out to this show (and/or Vintage Torque Fest) and also making it a vacation. Illinois and Iowa are beautiful states and offer a lot to anyone that loves architecture and history.
